When we look at blocked countries, we need to be aware that if a user has an IP from a blocked country, we cannot accept this. When looking at the IP of a user, we need to look at the IP location and the IP region.
This is the current location of the user as detected by MaxMind.
This shows the location of the user more reliably than the ID and billing information. This can be different to the ID and billing countries.
- So for example, a user may have an Israeli ID and an Israeli billing address but their IP location (when they uploaded documents or made an order) may be in New York. We cannot allow this.
- Alternatively, a user may have a German residence permit and German billing address but have an IP located in Syria. We cannot allow this as Syria is an OFAC blocked country.
This shows the particular region or state the user is in.
For US users this is important as it could show that the user is in an unsupported state.
